The History Guy: History Deserves to Be Remembered
США
Добавлен 29 янв 2017
History that deserves to be remembered. If you love history, this is the channel for you! Stories of forgotten history, all between five and fifteen minutes long.
Episodes are posted Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings.
I have always loved history and believe that history does not have to be boring.
At its heart, history is story telling, and I believe that it should be told with passion and genuine love for the material. History might be tragic, it might be comic, but it is the story of who we are, and we should not be afraid to enjoy that story, and be moved by it.
I live in the American Midwest, talk too fast but am working on that, and tie my own bow ties. Yes, the hats in the background are mine.
Topic suggestions are always welcome. Send them to Suggestions@thehistoryguy.net
Fan mail is welcome at: PO Box 1473, O'Fallon, IL 62269

Salacious Scandal of the Gilded Age: The Breckinridge-Pollard Affair
In 1893 a sensational trial in the District of Columbia pitted a young woman against a powerful US Congressman. The salacious allegations captivated the nation, and went to the very heart of the power structure of the Gilded age. The Breckinridge-Pollard affair is nearly forgotten today, but at the time it was, as a contemporary account of the trial explained, “The Most Noted Breach of Promise suit in the history of court records.”

Просмотров 23 тыс.9 часов назад
In 1807, with France ascendant and demanding that neutral nations choose a side, Britain feared that Denmark would join France and, for the second time in six years, prepared a fleet to strike preemptively. This time the people of Copenhagen would suffer the consequences. Check out our new shop for fun The History Guy merchandise: thehistoryguy-shop.fourthwall.com/products/thg-history This is o...

Politics does indeed make strange bedfellows.
Heck, breach of promise as a concept isn't all that remembered now.
Coin Toss Flips By Grape Or Gooseberries
I talked to a librarian and she said the most stolen book was the bible!
Darn I bought the "little red book" in 1976 for a class!
Artificial sweeteners go back much further. The Roman's used lead to sweeten foods.
And now the supreme court gets free paid vacations to rule against the law to suit their lavish lifestyle its also commiting treason against the united states but 28% of unamerican uneducated deplorables who woship that type of person are placed into position to be in favor of the criminal
There was a warning at the beginning about the suicide content. I chose to watch it anyway and didn't see that content.Or hear it for that matter.

Naughty 90’s
Michiel de Ruyter is considered one of the greatest heroes in the history of our country, the Netherlands, and one of the greatest admirals in world history. Many major streets, squares, navy ships, etc. etc. are named after him. Before the introduction of the euro, his portrait decorated the 100 guilder note. History is written by the victors, and the English amassed a much bigger empire than we did. Understandably, they would want to bury the name of the man that brought them the biggest military defeat on their home soil in history. Because of this fact, De Ruyter was admired by Napoleon and Hitler, among other strong men that were never able to defeat the English like he did.
Kentucky. A strange history.
I love gatorland. I'm glad to see when they first open in the morning, how long the line is.
People don’t believe it but 50 years after we all die (around year 2100), no one will remember about Clinton’s little fling or care.
I hope Elon Musk never gets involved in a scandal. Elongate would be really drawn out.
Booooo!
Elon dated Amber Heard after she broke up with JD. He quickly ended it.
He deserved to lose everything. ... He was a scumbag. I hope his third wife left him. I'm also glad Pollard didn't allow her interaction with him to destroy her.
Thanks for another great video HG
Whole lotta onions
In the town I live in is a street named Breckinridge, but I am pretty sure it was not so named in honor of him.

Bless Albert,a merciful and caring human against the evil fascist regime.🙏
Fascinating Thank you!
A woman scorned!
Henry was born in Newton Ferrers, Devon and is buried in Bideford, Devon
Am I the only human on earth who is not primarily motivated by profit? Jesus
Might wanna check up on your wife. Puns like that are definetly a dad move. If you're not one already, you're about to be.
😊
A casual check of the subsequent commentary posts talk around the formation of a future Daanish fleet by the planting of trees, but no reference to Great Britain ever returning any Danish vessels after Waterloo and the supposed end of hostilities therein. Given the Napoleonic era's penchant for Royal Navy 'prizes' of captured vessels, I suppose not-a-one was ever repatriated to Copenhagen. Is this assumption correct?
My favorite piece so far. A change in society brought about by a wronged woman and her lawyers.
YOU deserve to be remembered
It's official, from here on history must be relayed and conveyed while wearing a bowtie and speaking with a cadence of knowledge.
Yep all Masons
Timely, indeed.
I guess what goes around comes around...... 🙂
That's kinda creepy. I had a 3rd great grandfather, born 1807 Kentucky. John Preston Campbell. Tall, strong, long grey hair and beard, blue eyes. Confederate soldier. 😮
In defense of those British officers sometimes those charges of light cavalry works like during the Third Battle of Winchester where Union cav charged on well defended Rebel gun works and some how with tons of courage and luck win the day. I think it was more succesful because at Winchester it was a massive cav charge with many more horses and riders.
Wow check out the "LUNACY LANDER!" It looks like a kids science experiment gone horribly wrong!! The ONLY thing that's been to space is your imagination!!!!!!
We've sent more than 10,000 satellites into space, which we can verify by looking up at the night sky, or by aiming a radio antenna at a satellite. The LM looks like a spacecraft that never has to operate in an atmosphere.
I love stories of the gilded age. How about a medieval tale. Bad art and all.
Nashville has a great replica.
Meh. The coerced gay sex was way worse.
Thank you. That story so well ties into todays issues, doesn't it. (I've probably made promises that I couldn't keep, too). (Never trust a Democ-rat🤣)
🎶Death or glory we are riding the storm🎶 🤟
There are streets and even a county named after Breckinridge.
A fine tale with lunch at the mango farm
love the videos. great chunks of history, keep up the great work
It was the largest robbery in history and was a reason why so many men followed him into piracy Not even Drake matches this
Don't all good stories. . .
